Classes
All classes, including Pre-K, have an "ENGLISH ONLY" policy. They will not but punished for speaking Japanese, but they will be told not to speak Japanese and will be taught how to say the word or phrase in English. K2 and K3 students usually will not speak Japanese unless it is to ask how to say a word or phrase in English. We do stick to the policy, however we do have Japanese speaking staff. If a child is hurt or uncomfortable and cannot communicate the problem well enough in English, they may speak Japanese to the teachers.
Unlike most English schools, which generally offer one hour classes, we offer 2.5 hour lessons. This allows the kids to learn English naturally through immersion and by speaking English with their peers. Each class will include an English grammar activity and an enriched learning activity.
We are implementing a "no textbook" curriculum. This means students are not expected to buy or use a course book in class. This doesn't mean students will not be given texts. It just means that they are not tied down to the language and methods of one course book series. Children will focus on target language through activities and games. They will have time to practice reading and writing with sight word readers and workbooks as well as in-class games. Target language is decided monthly and will be announced to parents the previous month.
There is a class limit of 10 children per class. This is to keep the class size smaller for a more personalized learning experience.
All kinder course students are welcome to join our monthly events, including events such as the induction ceremony, Halloween party, Christmas Play, pool party, graduation, etc.
